This piece was created with the intention of taking a classic art style, in this case, halftone printing, and turning it into a physcial, dimensional art piece. The subject of the piece is the musical artist Lana Del Rey, who was selected at random by my wife.
An image of Lana was posterized to create 3 clean and distinct layers of color. The image was then processed with a halftone filter to create the dot-matrix look and the layers converted into vectors. I used a plotter to cut the layers out from cardstock and mounted the pieces onto a foamboard-backed canvas using metal wires, with a 1/4 inch space between each layer. I also constructed the frame, which consists of three concentric layers to reflect the three layers of the image.
